This is great a most for paint correction checking to see how much clear coat a vehicle has before doing any correction tool works as expected
I was pleasantly impressed by this tool. The documentation is excellent and definitely a worthwhile read, in fact, I'd say its a mandatory read. They walk you through the controls and calibration processes for two kinds of metals. Its important to calibrate as instructed. I use, I first tested my own vehicle and then used it a couple more times on used cars that was considering. Paint thicknesses do vary based on panel location and, as the manual explains, you're looking for big differences between different panels more than paint differences on the same panel. I looked at the same model of car both times and saw the same pattern of paint thicknesses, where it was slightly thinner towards the bottom of the doors and slightly thicker along the C-pillars, for instance. I feel much more confident having used this tool than relying on an online service like Carfax which is only as good as the car accident and repair data that they collect.
It was a little hard to calibrate. Had to have my boss do it.
Great value used it to check thickness of my paint. I got it missing the iron substrate and battery, battery no problem I had one. I messaged them about it and got a response the next day, and was told they will send the missing items. Works great for what I’m doing and it’s
Worked on this single stage Mustang and without this guy I wouldn’t have known how much paint I was working with. I knew exactly how much I could polish off, if you’re looking for a confidence booster this is your best friend.
Works well for the price! Almost wished I didn't have this tool as it revealed two of my cars have had multiple panels repainted each. Calibration confusing if you don't know to place the metal bits under the clear slides. This wasn't immediately clear from the instructions.
Easy to use if you can't spot a repaint for doing PDR glue pulls. Also works well for detailing.
it is easy to use, large numbers. Don't have to go through hoops to get it set up.
I don’t even know what this is or how it work but our son has a car detailing side hustle and this was one of the items on his birthday list. He loves it! Yeah us!!!
For the price you can’t find a better paint meter
Ready to go straight out of the box. Included calibration materials although no certified or authenticated. Great value for money.
Did what it was meant to. Very useful if you’re buying a used cars and want to see what’s been painted over or covered up by paint.
For the money, I wasn't expecting much, but have been pleasantly surprised! The manufacturer even includes sample metal squares (ferrous and aluminum) and sample coating overlays of varying thickness to evaluate the calibration (1.97/3.94/9.84/19.7/39.4 mils). My unit is VERY accurate and precise (yes, I know the difference between those scientific terms) - less than 1% difference between subsequent/repeated readings of the same location, and less than 2% difference between the stated thickness of the samples and their actual readings. For a shade tree mechanic doing my own work, this more than suits my needs!
I got what I wanted. Nothing but, just something that works well for a normal user.
Wow, I am very impressed with this. It showed up same day from Amazon, put the included battery in, checked calibration and got to work testing the paint on my car. So easy to use and seemed consistent in its readings. The got carried away checking my diy paint job on my front door and such. This is a pretty cool device and i am sure I will find many more uses for it.
As shown on the description. I am very satisfied
Device works as expected, and very happy with it - the only issue was I had problems calibrating, and finally realized the battery it came with was almost dead. Replaced the battery and all works perfectly.
Good quality, easy to use.
It’s a great device to see paint thickness and whether a car was repainted.
This tool really came in handy as I was going to polish and compound my car after a deep detail. It showed me spots on my car that the paint was too thin to polish and other areas where I could use a heavier compound. Very useful and effective!
Works as it should. I recommend this store.
I bought this item because I recently polished my car and guess what, I went through the paint. Now, I dont polish my car without ever checking how much clear coat I have. This item is dead accurate. Ok maybe +/-0.4 but when I do my checks, its on point most of the time. I wish I bought this sooner. I would recommend this product.
Works great and accurate
Given that this product can be easily calibrated and tested, my initial concerns were assuaged quickly after receiving and trying it.
I like it
It's a great choice for anybody who wants to have peace of mind when buying used cars or for detailers as many others mentioned it before! Can definitely recommend it!
Easy to use very fast. I recommend to buy.
Works just as described.
Great product. The case feels well built and the buttons feel strong. It comes with a storage case, battery, calibration plates to ensure accurate measurements and easy to read instructions. Good price and easy to use.
So easy to use. Compared it to high dollar model at a local body shop and it was dead on. Sits on the top of my cart. Use every time before I polish a car.
Excellent purchase. A valuable tool particularly if you are planning to do paint correction on a classic car.
What a great tool! I used this for pre-purchase inspections (PPI) of used cars for my son. Being I was searching for his first car I wanted to know what paint work that may have been done. So many cars get damaged and reworked and not reported so they don't show up on a Carfax. This tool reveals where there was paint work done.
I found the best way to use it on a PPI was to measure the thickness in the middle of the roof and all 4 corners. Since the roof is rarely damaged (unless by hail) it was the bast place to sample the paint. If it is consistent I found this number would be very close all over the car. By far my best tool for the money in my inspection kit!
Use for checking the thickness of your coat of paint, a necessity when doing paint correction.
Exactly as advertised
The product works as described by seller.
Works as represented. Easy to use. Comes with a series of little metal plates for calibrating and seems to have good accuracy. Small pouch can attach to your belt which I liked.
I liked the ease of use. The instructions are not highly understandable, I just kind of winged it at first and still figured it out. This will do paint depth on ferrous and non-ferrous metals…unfortunately did not work on my old fiberglass hood and now I know why. However, it was accurate, compact and extremely helpful!
Always asked yourself if the used car your trying to buy was previously in an accident? well now you can check the paint thickness of every car panels!! If there's bondo over the sheet of metal or plastic, you'll see a big discrepancy compared to the other ones! The best car repair shop will never be able to match the thickness from the car manufacture. Very useful !!
