6 years ago i bought an expensive chain sharpener and never could get it to work consistently. So ive been bringing my chains to the dealer for the job. But last time they ruined 6 good chains. Probably a new employee or something. So i bought more new chains and this item. I cant believe how easy and fast it is. About five minutes and im back in buisness. I have a sthil ms290 18 inch. I love the fact i dont even need to remove the chain. I waited to post to make sure i wasent just getting lucky, but i now have sharpened the same chain four times and still have 75 percent of the tooth left. Looks like i will get 6 or 7 sharpens per chain. I love this tool!!!!!!!
I purchased three of the mower blade sharpeners that attach to your power drill, and found not what I wanted. The plastic would get hot and melt and also get cut while doing the sharpening job. I then looked at the Dremel A679-02 Attachment Kit for Sharpening Outdoor Gardening Tools and purchased one. I was not to be disappointed as this attachment for my Dremel sharpens mower blades razor sharp and to the correct angle. My Dremel is a variable speed one, I have found that 2800 rpm’s is just perfect speed, I also found moving the sharpener in the direction of the rotating stone is the right way as I read from other comments. Very fine purchase, works to perfection. Oh yeah…I have given the other sharpening devices to my son-in-law, let him fool with them, I have what I want.
Have many Dremel Tools and accessories. Dremel keeps me scratching my head as the price of there products is disturbing. As far as this Dremel attachment A679-02 I only used the lawn mower blade attachment and not the chain saw blade attachment as of yet. Sharpened 2 sets of 3 blades and a single blade for a total of 7 blades and tne #932 stone is on it's way out. In the future after a repurchase of the #932 stone I will go back to using the a grinder / bench grinder and use the attachment with the #932 for the final pass and sharpening. As the directions are a little sketchy on the recommend slot of the plastic gauge to place against the mower blade it is something one needs to decide on while making a pass. Having this plastic gauge / guide is a good feature in an attempt to maintain the pitch / angle of the cut part of the blade. Would recommend and repurchase if necessary. Picked this product up and the price was good and cheaper than box store retail. Thank You !
Works fine on my 42" residential riding mower(yes I'm cheap compared to grandfather haha). I've not used the other sharpening attachments as I have none of those types of equipment to sharpen.
On the blades this works on, it works better than a bench grinder, sharpens really well. Where the bench grinder is a pain as you have to make sure of the angle or you'll round off the blade which sucks, I'm terrible with a bench grinder apparently. This tool will do the angle and help you to remember how much on each side you've done for balancing the blade part of sharpening them.
Wow, after messing around with the chainsaw files for years and dreading sharpening them, I finally picked this up. I can literally go through a chain in 2-3 minutes with no learning curve. Unlike some of the expensive ones, you can sharpen the chain on the saw, so it's even quicker. I couldn't imagine a better way for the average guy to keep his saw sharp.
My lawnmower blade was much duller than I thought. After using this, I could hear the "buzzing" sound of the grass being cut because the blade became so sharp. Made a huge difference in the performance of my mower!
If you want an easy way to sharpen mower blades, and are a home user who only has to sharpen blades a few times a year this is a great option. If you're running a professional lawn care business, I would hope that it's obvious this isn't for you. A pro can justify spending much more money on a sharpener for mower blades.
This rotary tool (aka Dremel tool) attachment works well for someone who only needs to do this a few times a year. It's much quicker than using a file, or one of the pull along manual specialty sharpeners. And while you can do this "free hand" with just the Dremel 932 bit, the plastic guide helps you maintain the correct angle.
I suggest having two blades for your mower. I have a riding mower, and a push mower, and I keep two blades for both. That way when it's time to sharpen the blades, I can immediately swap out the fresh blades for the ones on the mower, and then I can sharpen at my leisure, instead of needing to immediately sharpen and go back to the mower for replacement.
My former neighbors left chunks of concrete, broken diecast toys, rocks and trampoline springs in my grass. Inadvertently catching this stuff in my lawnmower has caused pits and sings along the blade’s edge. By using the lawnmower blade sharpening attachment, I was able to hone the edge back on the blade and make the grass trimming more efficient. The price of this set was less expensive that buying just the lawnmower blade sharpening attachment alone!
This is has quickly become my favorite Dremel attachment. I've used it for sharpening chainsaw blades, lawn mower blades and several other outdoor slicing and dicing tools. You get a sharp polished edge in no time. Sharpening stones aren't indestructible. Treat them kindly and have replacements on hand.
A must have!! I use it to sharpen my Stihl chainsaw. Included guide allows me to keep that 30˚ angle for good sharpening. Combined with a cordless Dremel tool, and you'll never have to slow down your work because your chainsaw got dull hitting that hidden rock!
This got my mower working like new. It does take a while. The guide is set for an edge bevel angle of about 30˚. My blade's angle was just a bit over that, meaning I had to take off metal for the whole thickness of the blade before I even reached the edge. That's slow going with a Dremel and a little grinding stone. I found that a Dremel 415 dressing stone (NOT included with this kit, but it came with my Dremel) was essential for refreshing the 932 grinding stone (included with this kit) in the course of all that grinding. And I'll be needing a new 932 stone after a few more sharpenings, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to order an extra along with the kit.
Be aware that you'll need to take off the mower blade to sharpen it, so you can see what you're doing and test the blade for balance after sharpening it. I ended up getting a torque wrench so I could be confident of putting the nut back on with the right torque, as per the manual for my mower.
I got the attachment yesterday and tried it today. It works very well. The blade is much sharper now. It was easy to attach other than I had the key-less chuck on my Dremel and it's too big for the sharpening attachment. I switched it for the standard, smaller chuck and screwed on the attachment. I used the largest of the sharpening wheels for the mower blade. It was easy to use and didn't make a mess of the blade (I was a little worried about that). I probably over-sharpened it a bit.
I started with the Stihl 2-n-1 chainsaw sharpener. It did the job but quickly became problematic because dirt and oil filled the Bastard cut in the files. The Stihl tool took a little get used.
I decided to give this tool a try with the Oregon Chainsaw Replacement Sharpening Stones. It took much less time to sharpen the chainsaw chain and the teeth were sharper than sharpening with the Stihl file. The Stihl has a depth gauge and files to the correct depth at the same time. However, this tool and the Oregon stones made a quick job at filing down the correct depth. This works great for sharpening your chainsaw teeth.
I use it to sharpen my lawn mower blade as well as my garden shears. Once attaching this tool to a cordless grinder it works great. The angle it offers is perfect to obtain a sharp contour on the blade without having to be concerned of any mishaps. Its a lot more efficient than using a file to achieve the same purpose.
This is a great add-on Dremel accessory if you’re into DIY and good at following directions. Make sure to check the model of your Dremel to see if this accessory works with it! I bought it mainly to sharpen chain saw chains. It’s tedious to pick out the correct grinding wheel and get it and the guide aligned correctly. It did a nice job on my knife. I haven’t tried the mower and shear attachments yet but they look more straightforward to assemble and use.
Purchased this after not being able to find a local chainsaw sharpener and seeing that this kit was cheaper than the sharpening service I did find 30 miles away.
The guides are nice but don't attach to the flextool/hand extension. So, I skipped the guide and just put the proper bit in the extension, and went sharpening. Worked perfectly. Not sure how many sharpening sessions I'll get out out of the bit (estimating around 5) , but for the price it will definitely pay for itself.
Bought specifically for the chain sharpening attachment. For the price of this kit, you could pay someone to sharpen a chain ONCE. Super easy to sharpen a chain with very little effort and just a little amount of time. I've found the other attachments equally useful and $$ saving: I went through the whole shed sharpening everything up! Lawnmower blade - can be done without removing from the mower - loppers, pruners, shovels, pitchforks. (OK, those last two are meant to be funny.) Well worth it to keep an old Dremel useful for one MORE thing...
I’ve been paying about $15 per blade to sharpen my mower blades. With the stay at home orders, I had to find an alternative and didn’t want to pay for a bench or angle grinder. This works great with my battery powered dremal. I was able to put a good edge on two toro mower blades in about 20 min.
Nice items. Good quality. Photos and description match perfectly.
